The School of Rhythm is a space for creativity and self-expression that has bags of character.
“My only job at The School of Rhythm is making people happy” - Dom
The School of Rhythm, located in South East London is a space for young people to learn percussion and express themselves through music. As the site was previously a hairdresser, our task was to revamp the shop to make it an energetic and exciting place to be for young people.
We also wanted to make sure we reflected this aspiration in the exterior face of the building. Using economical materials, bright vibrant colours and timber stud structure to formulate a graphic identity that could represent the function of the school but also be economical.
Curtains and soft furnishings not only create a certain warmth to the space but also help to insulate sound, providing a level of functionality.
Taking inspiration from the shape of the drum, tiered levels stack up to form informal seating for parents, tutors and tutees to relax and hang out. We’re really excited to see how The school of Rhythm grows over time and gives rise to budding musicians from the local area.
