Our residency at the Livesey Exchange is an ongoing community project and very much a labour of love.
As architects, we can be preoccupied with the business side of things, but it's imperative that as a profession we share skills by involving ourselves in places where we live and work, which invariably has a mutual benefit for both parties.
Along the span of the Old Kent Road, there’s a series of neglected urban spaces which are prone to an accumulation of discarded building materials. Through our friendship with those at the Livesey Exchange, we know there's also little quality social space for the community, and our mission is to enable residents to make meaningful additions to their local area.
We’ve created a functioning workshop by refurbishing a garage at the Livesey Exchange. The space will be used to store found materials and fabricate urban greening interventions so that we can work with members of the community and help them shape the built environment in which they live.
As a continuous project, we hope to grow relationships and forge a resilient resource for the local community.
