Lightness and brightness have the ability to transform a space, elevate mood and inspire a sense of calm and comfort.
Seagulls is a holiday home designed to provide a place of rest-bite away from the fast pace of the city.
Creating an authentic sense of domesticity and relaxation was central to the project. Taking advantage of the ability to really embrace the abundance of space that you are rarely able to get in London.
Given the large footprint of the house, our approach was to maintain a visual line of sight but retain small nooks of space to furnish the space with moments primed for closeness and convergence. Situating these spaces in a way that makes them visible across the span of the house, allows users of the space to interact freely and naturally while allowing people to nest in their preferred more private spaces.
Situating communal function along one line of sight allows occupants to have a visual relationship with those using the house in different modes.
