Nestled in between the gap between party walls, Lyndhurst takes advantage. Really wanting to make a statement, the project allowed us to really play with form and materiality. The timber side extension cantilevers over ground level allow for a neat space for bike storage and workshop tools. Our aim was also to maximise space to provide for not only a growing family but have a house which is able to host different nodes of activity.
Within a conservation area this project adds 35% to the volume of the existing house. Through carefully working with the opportunities of the site form we have introduced a new infill addition, akin to other historic properties in the context which have timber framed annexes. Using a blackened oak cladding this elegant extension is a discrete addition to the streetscape.
